'I should introduce myself to you properly. I am Amâsu. I was once Girhâzi's tutor and taught her in secret how to read and write, which was forbidden. I am now here because she has asked for my presence and guidance, which I am happy to give.'
The old woman gives a kind and gentle smile.
'I am a follower of Írmu Who Weeps, whose tears of compassion for our people and those suffering everywhere, flow in the Ikorbân, the river that sustains our lives. There was a time long ago when the worship of Írmu was common among our people, but the Church of the All-Seeing saw to it that the practice ended. Well... almost. I was able to keep my mind hidden and elude the fires that their priests would have burned me upon.'
She looks contemplative for a moment before looking you in the eye.
'I wonder though, what you know of Girhâzi? Nothing, I should think. Speak to me again, and I shall tell you her tale. Her humility would certainly not allow her to tell you herself!'
